Lesley Anne Kinney – Bespoke Decorative Finishes – Urban Metallic decorative paint technique

Join Lesley and learn a decorative paint technique can be troweled or rolled, depending on skills. It’s a finish that can go right over the paint on the wall and will give a seamless, focal wall in custom colours. It takes two days to do because of drying, so a great add on to any work you are already doing in the house.

Lesley has over 30 years’ experience, here and in the USA. As a specialist decorator, she is part artist, part artisan and all professional. She has used her skills to produce a range of stunning decorated ceilings and unique plaster finishes for customers across Britain and America.

The gallery of her work on her website looks like something from the glossy pages of an interiors magazine. Want an ornamental ceiling for your dining room? Or a striking feature wall for your kitchen? Lesley Anne’s original, bespoke designs can make any home feel like a mansion.

While lockdown reminded many of us that our homes could use a lick of paint, sadly it also stopped Lesley Anne’s business in its tracks. Social distancing rules meant she could no longer go into clients’ houses to work.

Fortunately, she has managed to get some financial help from the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme. And while she has given her brushes (and her knees) a breather from painting, her creative streak has been as strong as ever.

She has started offering decorating classes via Zoom and has launched a range of beautiful onlays – 3-dimensional designs that customers can buy from her website and use to update and ornament their existing furniture.

At the age of 65, the physical demands of spending long days working on walls and ceilings mean Lesley Anne’s painting days may soon be behind her.

But she says: “I would now rather teach than paint. I want to pass on to a new generation the special techniques I have learned over my 30 years in the business. My goal is to help people decorate their furniture and save my poor knees at the same time!”

For now she’s teaching one-to-one via Zoom, but in time she aims to expand her new business to offer real-world painting workshops and eventually, a retreat.
