Project of the Month – July 2020

Branston Golf Club

Located on the south side of Burton Upon Trent, Branston Golf Club is an outstanding club where health & friendship go hand in hand since 1975.

The clubhouse facilities were originally portacabins until 1994 when the current clubhouse was built and opened. In 2019 the club had a change of ownership and the new owners wanted to give the whole clubhouse a revamp and more modern look. Whilst the facilities were closed due to Government guidelines, the new owners brought in Just Spray It, to redecorate from old to modern, creating an environment which is homely, warm and inviting.

Just Spray It, won the contract to redecorate the Golf Club, as the owners wanted the building decorated utilising the use of spray technology, due to the more superior finish.

Prior to spraying the surfaces, a high level of preparation was undertaken to ensure a flawless finish. All the edges were taped, and all surfaces were sanded to a smooth finish.

The Bar was sprayed using the Graco edge gun sprayer and Wagner 3500 xvlp and 5000 xvlp were used in the other areas of the building.

It was essential that the products used in the bar would not be affected by alcohol, to keep it looking good over time. The brands used on the project were Tikkurila and Sherwin Williams.

Simon Newbould, Director of Just Spray It said he, “Chose these products as he has found them to be reliable, high quality products that are easy to use and competitively price and would not be affected by alcohol”.

The walls, ceiling, fireplace and two small feature walls, were painted using Farrow & Ball colours, light blue for the ceiling and vardo for everything else.

Tikkurila Everal aqua 40 was used on the woodwork, beams, seating booths, windows, panelling, and doors mixed to Farrow & ball colour De Nimes.

The bar top was finished in Sadolin PV67 lacquer in a satin finish.

Morrells Acid-Cat primer was used on the bar panels followed by Sherwin Williams mixed to Farrow & Ball colour Inchrya.

There were very few problems encountered on the project and nothing that Simon and his team couldn’t overcome. As the floors had already been laid prior to decorating, it took longer to ensure it was all covered using Correx prior to commencing work. Working on this project with other trades onsite was something that had to be considered as current Government guidelines had to be implemented and masks had to be worn. However, all the contractors were understanding and worked well together. The other factor was the time scale for the project as an announcement was made by the Government about opening bar. Simon came to an agreement with the owner that he would work later and employ the help of an extra person to facilitate the opening.

The high quality of the work at the bar has resulted in Simon being awarded other projects at the gym in the area which includes the ladies and gents changing rooms, terrace room and the sports room.

The client is thrilled with the finish and has said they, “went for a spray company as we knew we would be able to complete the work more efficiently and with a more superior finish than traditional decorating… we’re glad we got Just Spray It to do the work, as if we’d have used traditional decorators it wouldn’t of been done in the time frame required”

Newbold Decorators is a family run business with a sister company Just Spray It which is owned by Newbold Decorators. Simon Newbold is the owner of the company and his wife and daughter do the paperwork.

Simon’s sons and close friends are the decorators, and all have been taught to achieve correct business standards by Simon.
