Extreme Exterior Painting against the elements.
During the 19th Century, this impressive private house in Litchfield, Staffordshire had formerly been a hunting lodge. However, as each subsequent owner added their own developments and elements of individual alterations, to both the building and surrounding grounds, it has become a truly beautiful home.
In September 2019 Damian Proud of Proud Painting & Decorating was asked if he would be able to paint the rendering on the exterior of the property, he knew that there would be a very small window of opportunity, so agreed to get as much done as would be possible with permitting weather conditions.
Hire of the cherry picker enabled a prompt freshen up of the rendering in Farrow & Ball Exterior Masonry Peignoir. Followed by the contrasting Farrow & Ball Exterior Eggshell in Sulking Room Pink on the guttering and fascias. The masonry was completed in October and there had been a few short days and a couple of days off site due to rain, but the temperatures had stayed in Damian’s favour and on completion of the masonry the client asked,
“What do you think about getting some of the windows done?”
So again, weather permitting on the dry days, Damian was back in the cherry picker painting the windows, which were finished in Farrow & Ball Exterior Eggshell in Plummett and the frames in Great White.
It was now November and there were only the ground floor windows remaining to be painted and the client turned to Damien and said, “It would be nice to get the front doors done in a nice gloss finish for Christmas”
Damian said, “Although it’s not good to say No, sometimes it’s good to agree on an alternative to what we are being asked for and as the owners of this house have previously seen many years of use of Farrell & Ball paints, I was relieved to hear the order for Full Gloss had been changed to Eggshell”.
With the door furniture removed and a blow heater on at 07:30am in the dark to pre-heat the doors a two-day process of Farrow & Ball Exterior Wood Primer & Undercoat followed by Farrow & Ball Exterior Eggshell in Stiffkey Blue, gently encouraged by the blow heater once again, Damian could stand back and smile at the results.
Once the door furniture was renewed with its new coat of Sikkens laquer and Damian was handed another cup of coffee with a smile, he knew he had a happy customer, despite the not exactly text book conditions encountered during this Extreme Exterior Painting against the elements.
To complete the exterior, there was a bit of touching in on the conservatory windows and door sill with Little Greene gloss in Ashes of Roses.
Damian’s moto is “He who dares, wins” and he said, “whilst not wanting to sound like crossing that fine line of confidence, I have since been told that when it comes to difficulty ‘Those that can, Do’ which I took it as a huge compliment”.
