The West End of Glasgow, a popular neighbourhood, boasts a distinctive Bohemian vibe and a mix of properties types dating back to 1885. Known for its diverse community and cultural richness, the area offers opportunities for decorators to engage in unique projects within a historically significant and vibrant setting.
Trade Decorator caught up with Ian Howie from Robert Howie & Sons to delve into the details of their latest triumph in the lively West End of Glasgow. Get ready for a firsthand look at our December Project of the Month!
The project involved the transformation of a first-floor property with no direct access at the back, presenting logistical challenges due to the scale of renovations and collaboration with other trades, added complexity to the project.
Robert Howie & Sons chose Akzo Nobel products for the project, with Dulux Ultra Matt for ceilings and Dulux Satinwood for woodwork. The walls, mostly covered in Tektura metallic-style wall coverings, posed a unique challenge. Plastering and skim coating were applied to achieve a flawless surface for the metallic wall coverings, ensuring a luxurious finish without imperfections.
Detailed Renovations: The extensive renovation included the installation of new fibrous cornicing in hallways and bathrooms. Challenges arose in straightening walls, impacting the installation of new wooden facings. Bathrooms featured minimal decoration due to large format tiles, luxury fittings, and pre-finished ebony lacquer doors. The front door presented a particular challenge, requiring the removal of shellac before achieving a suitable surface for Farrow & Ball Railings eggshell finish.
Transformation and Client Satisfaction: Despite the challenges, the project resulted in a stunning transformation of a 3-bedroom flat. The kitchen was relocated to create a beautiful kitchen-dining area. The client’s vision and discernment played a crucial role in bringing this luxurious project to reality. The attention to detail and dedication of every trade involved contributed to the client’s overwhelming delight with the final results.
