Project of the Month – December 2018

Different Strokes are fit for a King

In 2018, Different Strokes were approached by the Royal King’s Arms Hotel, to carry out internal and external decoration as part of a multi-phase major refurbishment of its premises. Different Strokes regularly carries out projects for businesses in the hospitality industry and the Royal King’s Arms is one of Lancaster’s largest hotels and a grade II listed building.

Working closely with the interior designer, builder and hotel staff, Different Strokes were originally tasked with decorating the ground floor of the building. The project was made more complex, as it was undertaken whilst the hotel remained open. The team worked long hours alongside other trades in order to complete the project to tight deadlines, whilst remaining mindful of the needs of the hotel’s existing guests and maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.

The building was in a poor state of disrepair. Much of the work involved major repairs and preparation and the use of Mirka dustless sanding equipment to achieve a flawless finish, before application of specialist paints and bespoke commercial wall coverings. All walls were lined with fabric lining paper, and finished in wallcoverings from Zoffany, Anthology and Tektura complimented with paints from, Leyland, Dulux, Crown, Zoffany and Farrow & Ball.

Robert Crawford, Owner of Different Strokes said, “The project would have to be seen to appreciate the standard which would only usually be seen on a high-end domestic project, it really is as good as it gets. We have worked around others, including completing four bedrooms in 7 days to accommodate very tight deadlines”

On completion, the client was so happy with the quality of and finish of the work undertaken that Different Strokes have since been invited to return to decorate many additional areas including the staircases, Lower cocktail bar and the bedrooms which they look forward to beginning shortly.

Different Strokes offer a wide range of painting and decorating services to clients of every size, across the North West. Established for 18 years and members of both the Painting & Decorating Association and Dulux Partners, Robert employs a team of meticulous staff who carryout work for domestic, business, hospitality, education and retail sectors.

Skilled in internal and external decorating, Different Strokes work with a wide range of paints and wall paper manufacturers and have the experience and knowledge to advise on which paint system and application method is right for the project.

Robert said, “All the above clients enjoy our slick and efficient service and the exceptional finished job which we strive to achieve for every client.”

Different Strokes also offer an effective joinery and Repair Care wood repair service alongside of their external painting service.

Previous clients have included National retail chains, railways, builders, landlords, trusts and private individuals. Robert prides himself on the fact that More than half of their custom is return business and 99% of their clients would recommend them to a friend.
