National trade body, the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has set out key dates for members and partners across the sector in 2022.
The PDA runs a series of events and competitions that promote the trade and create network opportunities for painters and decorators, and the wider construction industry, throughout the year.
And, as businesses plan ahead for the coming year, the PDA is setting out some of its key dates for 2022.
Initial judging of entries to the Premier Trophy Awards is already underway after the competition’s closing date on January 14 – and the early part of the year is also expected to see the launch of the PDA’s Paint Green initiative, a new sustainability standard that gives members the chance to showcase their eco-credentials and dovetails with existing initiatives across the industry.
Entries for the PDA’s Apprentice of the Year competition will close on February 11. This competition is open to all apprentices from across the sector regardless of whether their employers are PDA members.
Competition events will take place at three colleges in different parts of the country, with entrants enjoying the chance to see their work judged by professionals in the industry.
PDA members who renew or join, and pay their membership fee in full before February 28, will automatically be entered into the Early Bird Prize Draw and be in with the chance to win a handheld Graco UltraMax spray machine.
And those who renew or join before March 31 will receive a free vinyl PDA logo for their vehicle.
The entry deadline for the Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year competition is Friday, 22 April, and again this competition – which sets a gruelling six-hour challenge for apprentices – is open to all apprentices across the UK.
Delayed several times due to Covid-19 restrictions, the PDA’s Golf Day and Paintball event at The Abbey Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort in Redditch, will take place on Thursday 19 May where guests can enjoy 18 holes of golf on the outstanding 72-par parkland course designed by Donald Steel, or enjoy alternative activities are at nearby UKPaintball.
The activities are followed by a three-course presentation dinner and a range of activity, dining and accommodation packages are available for this event.
The Apprentice of the Year competition events will be held at Accrington & Rossendale College on Thursday, 24 March, Coventry College on Thursday, 7 April and North Kent College on Thursday, 5 May, with the Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year taking place at The Hub in Doncaster on Tuesday, 7 June.
The PDA team will also travel to Old Trafford Football Stadium in Manchester on June 23 and 24 for the Trade Decorator LIVE event.
PDA Chief Executive Neil Ogilvie said: “The first part of the year is always a busy time at the PDA as we prepare for the in-person events that take place in spring, summer and autumn.
“Judging for the Premier Trophy Awards begins shortly after the closing date, with site visits usually planned for the spring/summer ahead of final decisions agreed before the prestigious ceremony at Plaisterers’ Hall on July 7, where we will also announce the Apprentice of the Year competition winners.
“As well as our own events and activities, we also promote the painting and decorating sector at other industry events, as well as ensuring our members have a voice on the national and international stage through our work with partners such as BUILD UK and UNIEP.”
Following the Premier Trophy Awards ceremony, the next major event for the PDA is the Networking event which is scheduled for mid-late autumn at a venue to be confirmed.
The event gives members the chance to relax and socialise and features the popular Gala Dinner at which the winner of the Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year competition will be announced.
Towards the end of the year, the PDA team will be on the road again, travelling to the National Painting and Decorating Show at the Coventry Building Society Arena on November 22 and 23.
Neil Ogilvie added: “Each of our planned activities has an important purpose, whether it’s showcasing the high level of skill and quality clients can expect from our members, supporting and inspiring younger people entering the industry or giving painters and decorators the chance to make contacts within the trade and share experiences and knowledge.
“It’s great to have a full calendar of events to look forward to in 2022.”
