In a bid to address mental health concerns within the construction industry, the Trade Decorator Forum proudly announces its partnership with The Talking Tradesman podcast. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in prioritizing the mental well-being of those in the Painting and Decorating industry.

The Talking Tradesman, renowned for his insightful discussions and advocacy for mental health awareness in the construction sector, will now serve as an integral part of the Trade Decorator Forum’s admin team. Additionally, third generation painter and decorator, Russ Payne, AKA The Talking Tradesman will take on the vital role of mental health ambassador for the Trade Decorator Forum, further amplifying efforts to destigmatize mental health challenges within the industry.

Mental health remains a pressing issue in the construction industry, often exacerbated by the demanding nature of the work and the prevalent culture of stoicism. However, by partnering with The Talking Tradesman, the Trade Decorator Forum endeavours to initiate meaningful change and signpost vital support systems for those in need. 

The “Let’s Talk” podcast serves as a platform for open dialogue, offering guidance, resources, and a sense of community for tradespeople navigating mental health challenges. Paula McIntosh, founder of the Trade Decorator Forum, who tragically lost her eldest son to suicide in September 2021, speaks candidly about the transformative impact of that event on her life. “That event changed the person I am forever. In an instant, it changed the way I made sense of the world,” she shares. “Until that point, I would say I was ignorant to mental health, and I now understand the importance of good mental health from firsthand experience.”

Driven by her desire to make a difference and help others, McIntosh was inspired when she learned about The Talking Tradesman podcast and its mission to raise awareness of mental health in the trades. “When I heard about The Talking Tradesman podcast and what Russ is doing to raise awareness of mental health in the trades, I just had to get involved,”
